The Camino de Santiago, Spain, begins in France, moving west 500 miles through Northern Spain. Travelers wanting to complete all 500 miles can typically achieve the trek in 5-6 weeks. For those looking for a shorter length of time, consider starting adventures on the trail in the small town of Sarria. From Sarria, one can complete the journey to Santiago de Compostela in 5 days.
Historically known as the Way of St. James, the Camino de Santiago trail has been an important location for Christian pilgrimages. After Jesus’ resurrection, St. James became the leader of Christianity and traveled to Spain to continue his work. Christians worldwide take the journey as a way of having their sins removed.
An advantage of hiking is that the Camino trail is famous and well traveled. People you meet along the way can start as strangers and become lifelong friends by the end. Meals and wine give nourishment and social bonding with others at the end of each day’s completed distance.

Adventures on the trail perfect for intermediates ~
The Inca Trail comprises three overlapping trails (Mollepata, Classic, and One Day) that start in the Andes Mountains and end at Machu Picchu, Peru. Of the three trails, the Classic trail from either 88 or Km 82, on the Urubamba River, and 88 km and 82 km from Cuzco are where most travelers choose to start. Whether starting at 88 km or 82 km, adventurers will experience a four trek to the end point of Machu Picchu, Peru.
Your adventures on the trail will include views of the Inca ruins of Llactapata and ascending to either Wolarmiwañusca or Dead Woman’s Pass. Once at the top, the views of the Salkantay and Veronika Mountains are spectacular. While continuing your experience that the time to absorb the vibrant colors of tropical flowers of cloud forest and the jungle. Both Wolarmiwañusca or Dead Woman’s Pass come back together at the Inca ruins of Patallaqta. From there the trail continues to Machu Picchu.
Necessary information to know is that the Inca trail is closed during February for cleaning. Also, to help preserve the trail and ruins, guided trips are only allowed, and a total limit of 500 people per day. Plan accordingly because guided trips fill up quickly.

Trail for advanced hikers~
The Drakensberg Traverse in South Africa has several elements that make this experience for the advanced hiker. Trail length and rugged terrain are only a few challenges. Hikers will start their 150-mile adventures on the trail by climbing chain ladders up to the ridge. Once on the ridge, the trail markers tend to be those left by animal and human prints.
There are no checkpoints, facilities, or places to purchase supplies on the trail requires hikers to be 100% self-reliant. Weather conditions creating hazards such as high winds, snow, and mud also need to be expected on your trekk. The views from the The Amphitheater is what some say make all the risk worth it.
